From February 16th to 19th of this year, a delegation of 10 students from Nuestra Señora del Carmen school participated in the North American United Nations Invitational Model (NAIMUN), one of the oldest UN simulations for high school students in North America and around the world. Since 1963, the conference has been a forum for a dynamic range of young students who come from around the world to seek, through discussion, negotiation and debate, solutions to the world’s various problems.

The conference is organized by the Georgetown International Relations Association, Inc. (GIRA) with whom our school has an agreement since last year through CarMUN. GIRA is a non-profit organization that seeks to design meaningful exchanges that inspire, educate and empower the next generation of leaders in government, business and international affairs. NAIMUN has more than 250 Georgetown University undergraduate students who have a keen interest in and substantial understanding of international relations. With more than 3,300 of the best delegates from the United States and the world, NAIMUN has been called the “high school championship” of the UN Model circuit, a reputation earned through years of excellence.

Our delegation obtained the award as Best International Delegation, making us the first Peruvian school to win this award.

We are very proud of our delegates Dania Guerrero, Luciana Palomino, Luciana Arana, Maya Cáceres, Maria Gracia Miró Quesada, Santiago Lindo, Mauricio Castillo, Leonardo Macchiavello, and we want to recognize Bruno Chunga who, in his participation in “Crisis in the Valley: The Government of Mexico City, April 2020” achieved recognition as Best Delegate. Likewise, we are pleased to congratulate Alonso Belevan who participated in the “International Labor Organization (ILO)” achieving the Honorable Mention.

We thank Alberto Varela Anselmi and Eilin Noriega Cabrera for being the mentors of the team of delegates who, with their leadership, make each one stand out in the participating committees.

This international meeting has allowed our Carmelite School to stand out and invite us to talk to make strategic alliances with institutions such as Amnesty International, Columbia University, Berkeley Pre-College Scholars Program, MUN Model United Nations Institute, Catholic University of America, among others.

Congratulations delegates, you are our Carmelite pride!
